The Difference Between Frame 80 and Frame 81 at Mecalux

At first glance, they look identical: the frame types 80 and 81 from Mecalux. Yet there is an important difference.

Mecalux is one of the largest suppliers of warehouse equipment in Europe. A wide range, an attractive pricing policy, and sales both directly through their own sales organizations and through resellers.

The advantage of that strategy for you as a customer is that a so-called vendor lock-in is less likely. There are multiple suppliers of the same product, each with their own pricing policy.

Mecalux frame types

Mecalux has a number of frame types. The best known and most commonly used are:

  • Frame 80
  • Frame 81
  • Frame 101
  • Frame 122

In addition, for very large and heavily loaded installations, frame A127 is sometimes chosen, but this one is clearly less common.

At first glance, frame types 80 and 81 look identical. Yet there is a clear difference.

That difference lies in the bracing that is used. The upright (the vertical post) of the frame is identical for both types, but type 80 has lighter bracing than type 81.

As you can see, type 80 has narrow bracing that is mounted overlapping in the frame. This type is less strong than the bracing of type 81.

For that reason, frame type 80 is in principle only still used up to a height of approximately 6000 mm and at lower loads. For taller frames, and higher load requirements, type 81 is quickly used instead.

Check your load plate carefully to see which frame type you have, to avoid ordering a frame that is too weak as a replacement.
