At first glance, they look identical in terms of dimensions: the frame types 101, 101-1K, 101-2K and 101-3K from Mecalux. Yet there is an important difference.

Mecalux is one of the largest suppliers of warehouse equipment in Europe. A wide range, an attractive pricing policy, and sales both directly through the national sales organizations and through resellers. The advantage of that strategy for you as a customer is that a so-called vendor lock-in is less likely. There are multiple suppliers of the same product, each with their own pricing policy.

Mecalux frame types

Mecalux has a number of frame types. The best known and most commonly used are:

  • Frame 80
  • Frame 81
  • Frame 101
  • Frame 122

In addition, for very large and heavily loaded installations, frame A127 is sometimes chosen, but this one is clearly less common.

For a few years now, an addition has been introduced:

  • Frame type with -1K addition (e.g. 101-1K)
  • Frame type with -2K addition (e.g. 122-2K)
  • Frame type with -3K addition (e.g. 101-3K)

That difference lies in the bracing that is used. The upright (the vertical post) of the frame is identical for both types; the addition indicates that extra horizontal braces have been applied at the bottom of the frame.

In most cases, a frame consists of two uprights, 2 horizontal braces and a number of diagonal braces. By adding 1, 2, or 3 extra horizontal braces at the bottom, the frame becomes stronger and the load capacity increases. By adding extra horizontals, the large difference in load capacity between the various standard frames is bridged.

The number in the addition indicates the number of extra horizontal braces in a frame:

  • -1K = 1 extra horizontal brace in addition to the standard number the frame already has
  • -2K = 2 extra horizontal braces in addition to the standard number the frame already has
  • -3K = 3 extra horizontal braces in addition to the standard number the frame already has

Check your load plate for exact information

Check your load plate carefully to see which frame type you have, to avoid ordering a frame that is too weak as a replacement.
